The Best Pellet Grill New York Strip Steak
After a few months of failing miserably at smoking a new york strip steak, we finally cracked the code! This new york strip steak recipe makes it on our dinner table more often than I'd like to admit.
Equipment
- 1 pellet smoker
- 1 meat thermometer
- aluminum foil
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp Montreal steak seasoning
- 2 1" thick New York strip steak
Instructions
- Sprinkle and rub the Montreal steak seasoning to taste onto each side of the steak.
- Let the steak sit out on your countertop as you start up the pellet grill. Once the pellet grill is heated up, turn it to the lowest setting. On ours, the setting is called "smoke"
- Put the steaks on the center of the smoker, put your meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak and close the lid.
- Let the steaks smoke on the smoker until they reach 120 degrees. This took about 2 hours.
- Once it hits 120 degrees, turn the smoker up to 450 and sear both sides until the temperature reaches 136 degrees. This is for medium steaks. Pull it off earlier for rare or medium rare.
- Take the steak off the grill and put it onto a plate and lightly cover it with aluminum foil. Let the steak rest for about 10 minutes, or at least until the temperature of the steak starts falling.
